A time-based puzzle platformer where you freeze every 5 seconds and use your past selves to progress.

🎮 About the Game

Out of Time is a puzzle platformer built around a simple but unique idea:
time is not something you race against — it's something you use.

While a time limit usually pushes players to move faster, this game flips that expectation.
Success doesn’t come from speed, but from waiting for the right moment and making precise decisions.

A temporal anomaly has disrupted time itself, and you are helping the ClockHeads restore it.

🧠 Core Mechanic

  • Press Space to spawn a new ClockHead
  • Each ClockHead lives for 5 seconds
  • When time runs out, it freezes in place permanently
  • These frozen copies become platforms, tools, and puzzle elements

You must use your past selves to:

  • reach higher places
  • create paths
  • solve environmental puzzles

🧩 Gameplay

  • This is a time-based puzzle platformer with precision timing
  • The goal is to reach the beam of light causing the anomaly
  • Each level introduces a new mechanic step by step
  • The game consists of 5 handcrafted levels

The challenge is not reacting fast —
it's planning ahead and using time strategically

Character

  • A / D → Move left / right
  • Space → Jump

Mechanics

  • Space → Spawn new ClockHead
  • Q → Undo last ClockHead
  • R → Reset level

Debug / Shortcuts

  • K → Previous level
  • L → Next level

🧪 Development Notes

This project was created during a game jam with a strong focus on clarity and core mechanic design.

Instead of expanding scope, we focused on:

  • building one strong, readable mechanic
  • designing levels that teach through gameplay
  • ensuring the system is consistent and reliable

A key challenge was making sure frozen ClockHeads remain stable and usable as puzzle elements.

Despite the time constraints, we prioritized:

  • game feel
  • clean interactions
  • mechanical clarity

This project is designed as a foundation that can be expanded with more mechanics, levels, and visual feedback.

💡 Inspiration

The idea started from classic time-pressure gameplay, where players are forced to move fast under a timer.

We wanted to invert that idea.

Instead of racing against time,
you build your own path through it.
